A Month in Review | May

  • I saw Emilia which sadly has since closed, but I loved it, cried at it and wrote a gushing review here. Hopefully it will be back in theatres soon – the final jig can be seen on Twitter here.
  • Went to Greenwich Grind again because I’m a woman obsessed
  • Despite living in London for coming up to three years I’ve never been to the Tate Modern. I changed that in May where I visited for the first time. My stand-out pieces were from Jenny Holzer, Peter Segley, Ellsworth Kelly, Catherine Opie, Yinka Shonibare and Marwan Rechmaoui
  • My work team had a celebratory meal in Leeds this month. We ate at Blackhouse, a steak restaurant which was great (and looked like there were excellent cocktails). I stayed at the Mercure, which was really cute with great breakfast as well
  • We had a farewell brunch at Caravan with my old housemate who is moving to Singapore for a very exciting PhD
  • My work team had a trip to Shipley, where we drank at Saltaire Brewery and I discovered excellent local Yorkshire gin
  • Finally visited Flat Iron which was so worth the hype, that steak is £11 and completely delicious
  • Went to see Beats on Pointe, a show by the Australian company Masters of Choreography. It’s a fun mash-up of hip-hop & contemporary dance with ballet to a toe-tapping soundtrack and is on at the Peacock Theatre until mid-June
  • Took my brother to The Lost & Found in Leeds to celebrate his birthday. I also got him a tour of the previously mentioned brewery and had a delicious twist on a pornstar martini
